Term 2 - 'London's Calling'

This term, our topic is 'London's Calling'. We will be learning about this topic through our foundation subjects.  This term, we will be learning about The Great Fire of London. We will start with an enquiry and take on the role as detectives to discover when, where and why the Great Fire of London broke out. We will look at evidence, and ask and answer questions such as; Why did the Great Fire burn down so many houses? and Could more have been done to slow the spread of the fire? We will also develop our art and design skills to paint using tones and tints to create a Great Fire painting and design and build our own Pudding Lane.

In science, our topic is Everyday materials. We have lots of hands on experiments to test the properties of different materials.

In maths, we will bee starting our multiplication and division unit. We will have hands on a practical activities planned to show how we group and share objects. Before moving onto statistics before Christmas.

In English, our writing will be based around Oliver Twist. We will be writing in role, describing characters and writing a persuasive piece.

We of course also have our Christmas production.

Term 1 - 'We're Going to the Zoo'

This term, our topic is ‘We're Going to the Zoo’. We will be learning about this topic through our foundation subjects and will be doing lots of exciting activities including looking at the history of zoos, building an animal enclosure and debating on whether zoos ever have a positive impact. To support this learning, we have arranged an exciting trip to Wingham Wildlife Park on Tuesday 11th October 2022.

In art we will be using clay to create animal enclosures. We are sure the children will greatly enjoy getting their hands messy! Science will focus on living things and their habitats. In PSHE, we will be learning to communicate and co-operate with others.  We will also think about how we can look after our local environment.

The children will learn about place value in maths. Our maths lessons are always hands-on as we believe this is the best way for children to learn! It is important for the children to be able to solve problems in practical ways.

Our writing lessons will be focusing on writing narratives in first and third person, diary entries and writing an alternative ending. The children will also build on their skills learnt in year 1, recognising the non-negotiables in punctuation and using them accurately in their writing.

We have a very busy term planned with lots of exciting experiences for the children to get involved in!
