SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS WEEK BEGINNING 5th OCTOBER 2025

Welcome from the Head Boy/Girl & Deputy Head Boy/Girl

At Fleetdown, children are encouraged to develop the necessary skills to enable them to take responsibility for their school and to then contribute positively both to the school and wider community. In July, the children in Year 6 were encouraged to apply for prefect roles which included the Head Boy and Head Girl team. Applications were short-listed by Their Year 6 peers, with the final choice being made by staff at school.

This year, we congratulate Emilia as our Head Girl, Kaden as our Head Boy, Dariya as our Deputy Head Girl and Morgan as our Deputy Head Boy. This group of children have already played a vital role in the life of the school and we are looking forward to the improvements that they will continue to make throughout the year.

The children will form a crucial part of the school’s learning council where they work with other children alongside senior staff to reflect on things that are working well and to discuss how we can make Fleetdown even better! They are really enjoying their roles so far and are looking forward to the future of Fleetdown.

Welcome from the School Council

Welcome

Welcome! We are the School Council and thank you for clicking on our page. If you would like to find out more about us, then see below.

Who We Are

At the beginning of each year, children who would like to be a School Council representative have to make a short speech to the rest of the class. We then vote for the person we would like to be our School Councillor and they will attend meetings for the whole school year.

What We Do

We meet together to discuss issues we are facing at school and work with teachers and senior leaders to find solutions to these problems.

Some things our School Council have changed since 2024:

  • Improved menus reflective of children’s tastes
  • Refurbished toilets in Y2 and Y4 (October 2025)
  • Staff trained as Road Crossing Patrol
  • Thinking about AI and how we use it safely in school
  • Suggesting clubs for all

We also contribute to school tours for special visitors too. In the last academic year they toured prospective parents, OfSTED inspectors, Teachers and colleagues from other schools and our local MP Jim Dickson.
