The Ark team are still here to support pupils with SEND during the school closure.  This page contains useful resources and links for you to support your children at home.

Reception and Key Stage 1 Transition Resources:

Social Stories:

  • The Little Elf and the Flowers of Hope and Bravery - social story about returning to school during the covid pandemic
  • Coronavirus Back to School- social story about why children are returning to school
  • The Little Elf who missed his Birthday Party - social story for children with anxiety during the covid pandemic
  • My Hero is You - social story which can be used to explain why we had to stay home and how we can now go back to school
  • Blank Comic Strip Conversation document- if parents want to discuss the child's particular concerns regarding return to school.

 

Transition Activities:

 

  • Complete a lockdown Review - to bring in and show your friends/teacher all the things they have got up to.
  • Complete an Our Family During Lockdown - a mindfulness calming task and they can show their teacher.
  • Do Relax Tips Worksheet - If children are very anxious this is a nice task to work through to calm and suggest strategies to feel better.
  • Design a Worry Monster and feed it your worries.
  • Create a Friends Booklet about one or more of your friends you will see when you go back to school. You can bring it in and show them.
  • Take a Coping Strategy - A resource to help children keep calm and know you can talk to an adult.
     
  • Please look at the classroom photos sent out via parentmail to prepare children for the different layout in classes.
  • My Lockdown Experience - a pupil voice document which will provide useful information to the class teacher and for the family.
  • Complete a Wellbeing Questionnaire to discover and address concerns and share this with the teacher.
  • Complete a Bucket of Happiness to highlight the positives about return to school e.g. seeing friends, seeing teachers, fun activities

 

There are also lots of mindfulness tasks online, which are beneficial and if required we can send those if requested.

 

Key Stage 2 Transition Resources:

  • Refer to the Teen Anxiety Tips poster - apply these to returning to school. Make sure you focus on the positive i.e. seeing friends and teachers, doing interesting things at school. Please avoid the news and family discussing concerns/their own anxieties where children may hear.
  • Blank Comic Strip Conversation document if parents or children want to discuss the child's particular concerns or are struggling to communicate them regarding the return to school.

  • It is to be expected that everyone is anxious but try to avoid passing your anxieties onto your child. Try to avoid your child watching the news and address your child's concerns with the facts.
  • Please call or email us to let us know of any specific concerns it will not be possible to do this on the day and not beneficial for your child to do this in front of others.
  • My Lockdown Experience - a pupil voice document which will provide useful information to the class teacher and for the family.
  • Complete a Wellbeing Questionnaire to discover and address concerns and share this with the teacher.
