British Values and SMSC at Fleetdown
Through mutual exploration and understanding, staff and children have agreed our Core Values and Community Code. Enabling children to distinguish right from wrong, the Core Values also secures a safe and enjoyable learning environment with children encouraging respect for each other.
In addition to our Core Values and Community Code, Fleetdown is committed to promoting fundamental British Values as part of spiritual, moral and cultural development (SMSC).
Every child is encouraged to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and confidence. As a school we take opportunities regularly to celebrate diversity and strongly promote respect.
British Values at Fleetdown include:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect for those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.

School Council will discuss and issues raised, organise charity days, special assemblies and prefect roles and responsibilities. In addition, School Council will lead particular projects such as Eco-Schools, selling poppies etc. Annual pupil survey aimed to highlight the pupil voice. |
The Rule of Law:

| Using the Behaviour Code children become increasingly aware of their responsibilities both as individuals and to the wider school community.
Police and fire service to speak to the children during assemblies ensuring an increased understanding of anti-social behaviours in the children that leave Fleetdown. As a result, children will become better equipped to deal with the peer pressures of secondary education. |

Children learn about different cultural traditions by enabling students to acquire an appreciation for and respect for their own and other cultures. At Fleetdown we have developed our Curriculum Maps to ensure the values are embedded across the curriculum and are part of the daily teaching in classrooms. In addition, key historical figures are considered to introduce and educate the children about great British artists, scientists, historians, musicians, sportsmen and sportswomen.
